 Grants:

Thank you for your interest in the Spokane Mountaineers Foundation.  The following information is provided to assist in applying for a grant by outlining our purposes, grant policies and application procedures.

About the Foundation:

The mission of the Spokane Mountaineers Foundation is to preserve and protect the intrinsic value of natural and wilderness areas, promote outdoor education and advance search and rescue organizations. The funding criteria are based on the Foundation articles of incorporation, bylaws, and our status as an IRS designated 501(c)3 organization.

Funding may be provided for projects or programs consistent with these criteria with a maximum grant of $500.00.

Grant funds support:

  • Selected projects of 501c3 eligible organizations, other non-profit organizations, and other eligible agencies, groups, and individuals.
  • Outdoor education programs, materials, and speakers.
  • Conservation, environmental, search and rescue, and capital improvement projects (e.g. restoration, trail work, purchasing equipment directly involved in the mission of the project or group.
  • Land acquisition for preservation and wildlife protection.

Grant funding cannot support:

  • For profit organizations.
  • Regular operating expenses (e.g. salaries, overhead, office supplies, etc.).
  • Commercial ventures or studies that might lead to commercial projects.
  • Projects that have no start/end dates
  • Memberships in organizations.
  • Projects that include legislative lobbying or support of political candidates.
  • Fund drives.
  • Any project that the Foundation Board deems to not follow the mission or purpose of the Foundation.

How to apply for a Spokane Mountaineers Foundation grant: 

  • We do not prescreen applications or accept letters of inquiry.
  • We will not review incomplete applications.
  • Submit a completed online Grant application.
  • Application deadlines are: Feb 1, May 1, and Sept. 1.

  • You will be notified in 8 to 10 weeks after the funding deadlines about our funding decision.

How we judge proposals: 

  • Innovation and originality.
  • Likelihood of the projects success and application of results.
  • Applicant’s ability to conduct and complete the project.
  • Realistic and reasonable budget.
  •  Commitment and listing of other agencies and individuals you will work with.
  • Significance to the environment and /or the community.
  • Completion of the Grant application.

If your funding request is successful, we will need: 

  • Regular progress reports, as specified by the acceptance of your proposal.
  • A final project report.
  • A copy of any materials you produce with our funding.
  • Appropriate public credit to the Spokane Mountaineers Foundation.
  • All funds granted are to be used for the purpose described in the grant application.
  • If your project is cancelled or delayed, our grant funds cannot be used for any other reason not specified in the grant and must be returned to the Foundation.
